Have you ever noticed how these two things go hand in hand? How you can't have one without some form of the other?
Have you ever noticed how they are everywhere? If you compliment someone, you're making a comparison. Just thought I would point that out to anyone...

I don't agree. I believe we can sincerely compliment someone and not have it be a comparison. For example, if I thank someone for a good lesson or an interesting lecture, I am not comparing. I just enjoyed or learned from the experience.
But why do you think it's good or interesting? Because you had one that was not as good or interesting.
